A rare example of Scottish arts and crafts silver from the Alexander Ritchie Iona Celtic art workshop…..The Quaich is a classic form of drinking cup associated with the clans of Scotland….The piece is beautifully made as you would expect and carries a Ritchie boat to one side and a scroll with the toast “SLAINTE” to the reverse a word meaning health in Scottish Gaelic….The cup has two handles that have been worked with Celtic scrolls and the whole of the cup carries a border or Celtic entrelac and bosses decoration to the top edge…..It’s a beautiful object in the hand…..Fully and correctly marked A.R. IONA with hallmarks for Glasgow 1938….In excellent condition and without doubt has been used for purpose over its life…..
