The rare of the rare.

A stunning piece by the hand of Alexander Ritchie Iona. The design showing entwined Celtic beasts to the top half.Showing Ritchie’s celtic dogs of war to the lower half the two designs separated by a band of Celtic entrelac. The base edge decorated with the classic Ritchie scroll which appears on many of his pieces. The handle with a serpent head with the tail again showing the Ritchie scroll.Tapered body. This piece with the silver marks of CS&FS who were the hallmarking agents for Ritchie silver for a very short period between 1905/07 prior to Richie gaining his own hallmark in 1910.This piece dated 1906.Finding the rare sponsors set of marks on Ritchie is very difficult as he only used them for a very short period and his silver items are scarce through his whole working period. The design and work is unmistakable. It’s just beautiful and is worked to the highest standard of craftsmanship.

(N:B the same sponsor only marks were on the Ritchie buckle also listed which is now sold)
