Alexander Ritchie Iona Celtic Art Scottish Arts And Crafts Large Carved Walnut Table Casket With Celtic Brass Panels C1900

A rare work by Alexander Ritchie Iona Celtic art…..The large table casket carved in Walnut showing a depiction of the Effigy of Maclean of Ross found in the Iona abbey …….The shield showing the clan crest of a Boat Over a rampant lion ….The front and sides with worked brass panels with classic celtic emblems to the front panel and a grotesque bird and scroll to the ends…..The casket constructed of separate panels.…..Sat on a single piece wooden plinth……Original hinges….Original working lock with no key…Excellent waxed and polished patina to the Walnut.…Untouched patina to the brass panels…..Almost certainly by the hand of Ritchie himself and likely early in the life of the Iona Celtic art C1900…...Ritchie during this time was finding his style and it is believed most of his carved wooden work was only worked by himself…….An important piece of Scottish arts and crafts and a true joy….. Good antique condition with signs of use….Some splits to the walnut panels……The lid not sitting quite flush to the front…..But all in all a beautiful rare survivor…..
